Lake Country Congregational Church was founded in 1974 by several members of the First Congregational Church, Wauwatosa who had moved to the lake country area. Our first worship service was held in a home in November of that year. We then obtained use of the basement of the former Hartland National Bank and held our worship services there for six years. In June of 1975 our church was formally gathered. Thirty seven people signed the Church Covenant and became charter members in a special service which we celebrate each year as Covenant Sunday.
In 1976 we called our first permanent minister Reverend Henry ‘Jack’ Brown. By 1980 we had purchased our current church building. We were grateful for the financial assistance we received from the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches and several of our sister churches enabling us to obtain our first real church building.
Theologically diverse our membership maintains openness toward individual experience and perspective while upholding standards of the Bible and orthodox theology as well. Worship is traditional and relaxed following Christ in The Congregational Way. People of a Congregational Church do not seek to be led by a creed, but by the Spirit.
The Congregational Way is a way of following Christ. Ours is the tradition of a free church, gathered under the headship of Christ and bound to others by love, not law.
Our Church preservers the government and history of classic Congregationalism, which began in a small church in the village of Scrooby {England} back in 1606. This same Scrooby congregation later sailed on the Mayflower, drafted the Mayflower Compact and established a Separatist colony in America.
Our growing, friendly and open congregation is also dedicated, questing and engaged. Worship is at 10 am every Sunday, with open communion offered on the first Sunday of every month.
